What is the purpose of World Water Day?

It has been observed on March 22nd since 1993 to emphasize the necessity of freshwater. According to the United Nations, one day for water wherein, we learned approximately 2.2 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water. The theme of the day is taking action to address the worldwide water issue.

According to the United Nations, South Asia has the world's lowest per capita water supply, with groundwater usage anticipated to rise by 30 per cent by 2050.

Every year on March 22nd, the globe commemorates World Water Day. It emphasizes the significance of freshwater and how to protect it. We all understand that water is necessary for life; without it, we would perish. Close to 65% of an adult's body is made up of water.

Aquifers provide around 40% of all irrigation water. Furthermore, groundwater makes up nearly all of the world's liquid freshwater. As a result, understanding the role of environmental assets in maintaining life on Earth is crucial.

Climate change has a negative impact on the ecology and ecosystem, resulting in a water shortage. Floodwaters, storms, and water pollution are wreaking havoc on flora, soil, rivers, and lakes. "Groundwater: Turning the Invisible Visible" is the topic of World Water Day 2022. IGRAC came up with the idea for the theme.

Groundwater is a vital resource that supplies about half of all drinking water in the globe, approximately 40% of irrigated farmland, and roughly 1/3 of the freshwater required by industry.

We are all aware that World Water Day is observed on March 22nd all around the world. The U.N. General Assembly voted in 1993 to make this day an annual event in order to raise public awareness about the need for water conservation.

Throughout this event and campaign, all water concerns are highlighted. As a result, now is the moment to take action and work together to protect our limited natural resources.
